There are more vintage pop ups in the world than there are plastic bags

Taking a dig at the opposite end of high auction prices, we created a series of plastic bag artwork because “vintage” has become pollution, disposable and in many cases tasteless. Intended to make people think about their “vintage” consumption in the same way they think about single use plastic.

A reminder that ‘just because it’s old doesn’t mean it’s good’ and also a nod to Margiela’s re-use of plastic bags as clothing that has left a lasting legacy.

Banning plastic bags matters but it’s a token gesture when there’s millions of fast fashion items being sold as vintage online and ‘rare’ is misattributed, abused, overused and overpriced. The industry has a much bigger problem than plastic bags can solve.

This series of plastic bags handwritten with messages about the current state of the vintage industry written by Byronesque. Intentionally analogue graphic design by Alex Lipscomb.

Vintage has become disposable and tasteless

Only good taste can save us now

Just because it’s old doesn’t mean it’s good

Resale is the new fast fashion

We thought the future would be cooler

This bag is more polarizing than vintage fashion

5 trillion plastic bags are produced yearly and just as many ‘archivists’

There are more vintage pop ups in the world than there are plastic bags

Vintage has become trashy

This plastic bag could make fashion history
